Carroll Canyon Vortex Tour
History of Carroll Canyon Vortex
During the formation of the Grand Canyon, the primary perennial water source in Sedona, Oak Creek, originally ran over the mesa. Over time, Oak Creek diverted on either side of the mesa and created what is known as Carroll Canyon. Around 1900, Tom Carroll homesteaded Sedona, which included a part of the Carroll Canyon land. However, he was financially unsuccessful in developing the land for a living. Henry Schuerman bought the land off Tom Carroll and implemented a winery with peach trees. Carroll Canyon was also utilized as a mail route in the early years and now the trail is also called the “Post Trail.” There are several ways to access the area, but the Old Post Trail is the most scenic.
